Serums & Microneedling: Why Product Choice and Aftercare Matter
Serums & Microneedling: Why Product Choice and Aftercare Matter
Microneedling can temporarily change how the skin barrier behaves. That means an ordinary skincare serum that is comfortable on intact skin should not automatically be treated as suitable during or immediately after a needling procedure.
Professional treatment versus home tools
Professional microneedling should follow the practitioner’s treatment and aftercare protocol. Home derma stamps and rollers should be used only according to their manufacturer instructions. In either case, avoid improvising with strong skincare simply because increased absorption sounds beneficial.
Why “better absorption” is not always better
Needling can create temporary microchannels. While that can change penetration, it can also increase irritation risk. More penetration is not automatically desirable for every ingredient or cosmetic formula.
Be cautious with strong actives
Retinol, exfoliating acids, concentrated brightening formulas, fragranced products and other active skincare may be uncomfortable on freshly treated skin. Do not apply them around microneedling unless your practitioner or the specific device/product directions say they are appropriate.
What about Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic Acid is widely used as a hydration-support ingredient, but the fact that an ingredient is common in skincare does not mean every retail serum is sterile or designed for use with a needling procedure. Follow professional or device-specific instructions rather than choosing a product only by ingredient name.
Aftercare basics
- Keep treated skin clean according to the instructions you were given.
- Avoid unnecessary rubbing, picking or harsh exfoliation.
- Protect the skin from excessive sun exposure and follow appropriate sun-protection advice.
- Do not add multiple new active products while the skin is recovering.
When to ask a professional
If you are using professional microneedling, follow your practitioner’s aftercare plan. If you use a home tool and are unsure which products are compatible, ask a qualified professional rather than experimenting on recently needled skin.
Ammuri products and home tools
Ammuri offers an Adjustable Derma Stamp & Skincare Serum Kit. Read the current product instructions carefully and do not substitute unrelated serums solely because they contain a popular active ingredient.
